Overall Coordination and Oversight

In line with the foregoing, it is recognized that opportunities already exist at the Continental, Regional and National levels, by way of institutions and agencies which have the requisite mandates and are currently responsible for activities which fall in line with proposed ASBP actions. Thus at the Continental level, the AU provides opportunity for providing the highest possible political authority which provides ASBP with its required legitimacy and responsibility. A few African seed institutions exist which could serve as surrogate agencies in which the ASBP secretariat could be embedded and from there carry out secretariat and coordination role of AU in a more efficient manner.

ASBP Secretariat

The role of the Secretariat and the Programme Coordinator will be as follows:
• Coordination
• Advocacy
• Mobilization of funds
• Information sharing and learning alliance at country and regional levels
• Reporting to AU
• Facilitating, monitoring and evaluation and impact assessment
